I have as part of my job history....I have been a library volunteer teaching illiterate adults to read. It is possible to succeed at it, esp if the adult is motivated.
You can try, but if they aren't willing to attend class they won't learn the lesson. I can't imagine getting to the point in my life where I thought I had nothing new to learn. How boring that would be.
