I couldn't comment on that, being Australian, only on what it means. One of the band members at our former church was always called "habibi" and he called me "habibti". It was like "bello" and "bella" to the italians.

my county has nearly one million people in it, Pinellas county florida. It seems that nearly every corner store and gas station is owned and or run by someone of Near Eastern descent. I heard someone use it in a sentence last year describing them and I didn't know how I should feel about it.
