What is the best or quickest or safest way to break a cd or dvd disk in pieces in home conditions (no fancy tools around)?

Um... maybe put it on the porch or in the sink & take a heavy object to it? Run it over w/ your car?

Step on half of it with your foot. Wearing gloves pull up on the exposed half and that will snap it in half. If you have a large enough box put it in there before you break it. This way if any small pieces get away from you it will be in the box. Small shards are hazardous to small children and pets.

You can break it in your hands safely by wrapping it in a towel. If you are not strong enough, then put part of it under one foot and break it with your hand. Covered in a towel as well to make it safe. If you have a heavy duty scissors (not sure if this is fancy), you could just cut it in half.

Rub magnets on it which will make the cd or DVD worthless. If you so desired to go the extra measure, you could wrap up the disk in a towel or some other cloth, and break it with a hammer.

Pop it into a microwave for 30 seconds, take a pair of tongs, and drop it on the floor.

Hold it between the floor and your sole. Then suddenly remove your foot and step on it with all your might in a second.
