Help answer this question below.
hitting the brakes right before you stop
heat kills and wears the brakes faster
if you gradually slow, the brakes cool easier
The worst thing for your brakes is to have one foot on the gas pedal with the other on the brake pedal. Slow down easy. It saves the brakes and it saves gas to slow down slowly and accelerate slowly.
Hitting your brakes just before you reach a stop sign is harder on them. By gently tapping the brake and then gently applying pressure until the car rolls to a stop is much better. "Riding your brakes" usually refers to some few people who have a habit of keeping their foot on the brake while the other foot presses on the accelarator, and is possibly the worst thing you can do for your brakes.
hitting them hard is hard on your roaders and drums do to heat friction most brakes are anti lock now a days so even if you hit them hard there computer controlled and hopefully you will stop in time
gradually slow down using your brake/ride your brake
