  • Definitely visit the outer islands. Some of them are almost pristine, and display the sort of beauty even the big island use to have.
  • Learn which currents are present and where they go. One I remember is called the "Molokai Express"; get caught in that one near the powerhouse, and you are on a 22 hour ride to Molokai. Keep up to speed on shark sitings. If you dive off the north shore of Oahu, most likely you will see a few. Know what to do and what not to do. Should also visit the local dive shops to find out where to enter the water. There are many places that look good for entry/exit but if you moved 100 yards down the beach - it would be 100% easier and safer. Make sure at least one person, who will not be diving, knows of your daily plans - in case your late coming back.
