How could the heritable trait of height in humans be affected by the environment?

    If one is malnourished, they more than likely won't reach their full height potential.

    Does the environment produce a need for taller people? Yes? Then individual mutations make people taller and as they procreate more then the population evolves to being taller.

    But if you meant the question the other way then it could be because the environment does not produce enough of the nutrients required to make the individual grow to full capacity.
