Many people in the modern world believe that the prevailing theory of the cosmos in Columbus time was that the Earth was flat -- i.e. there's a widespread myth that educated people thought the Earth was flat. This isn't true. The Greeks knew the Earth was round, and that knowledge survived the Dark Ages and was well known in 1492.

I used to belong to Lycos IQ. Now those people loved difficult questions, and would do their best to provide an answer. Alas, Lycos shut it down and the replacement is about the same as this except with an anti-American bias.+

Many people think that the First Amendment right of free speech means they can say anything to anyone without any type of retribution. They don't understand the Constitutional protection is against retribution from the government only.

Many people think that common law marriage is automatic after a certain number of years living together. That's incorrect. It's only recognized in some states and the key is "intent to be married."

Humans evolved from chimpanzees.
According to Modern Evolutionary Synthesis (MES), humans and chimps evolved from one common ancestor which had both human and chimp-like characteristics primitive enough to be a TRUE common ancestor.
