Hotels, which usually include a breakfast, are on the high end and, if you want something comparable to what American's expect, you'll pay even more! I was there a year ago and paid over $200/night for two of us with the room very very small and the bathroom even smaller!
Take a look at Travelocity or Travelworm. Or you can google 'Amsterdam Hotels'. I would still highly recommend a trip there!

If you want to go cheap some of the hostels are around $15/night. You should be able to find a flight for around $750 if you shop around.
