Why did the last person to have the position leave?
That might tell you something.
In this economy many employers are requiring more of fewer employees.
Depends on the person and his situation.
Nothing is forever. You can try it and if you actually enjoy the pressure then you're having fun AND making more money... If you don't like it, quit.
No, you would live longer and lead a happier life if you didn't.
Sales sucks
I waited longer and paid my dues to get into department management in mfg.
less stress and more solid money IE no commission
it up to you, but being older I would rather be broke than unhappy
If the job is really for you, you should be able to hadle the job without stress. If you take the job and do not do as well as you hoped to, and therefore become stressed, you probably already know that stress can ruin your health, ruin your life and eventually kill you. I lost one of my best friends to stress. I have worked in high-paying stressful sales jobs and I have had poverty wage easy jobs. I was lucky enough to find a high paying job which is non-stressful, and that is what I would recommend for you!
If you see it as stress rather than a rewarding challenge, you may want to reconsider the position. Not everyone is cut out to do that job. There is a very good reason it is high paying.

Are the wealthy the job creators? I thought small business people hired many more employees. Any thoughts?

You're reading I have the option of backing off from my current easy-going and enjoyable (but underpaid) job, and involve myself in a well paid, but high stress sales job. Should I do it? Is the stress worth the money?

the current person hasn't left, although is not doing thierjob properly and can be utilised in another area of the business. It's owned by my boss, who i run a recording studio for, but i can see I could dramatically improve things in this other business....
