I wouldn't know a pass if it hit me over the head. I'm notoriously oblivious to stuff like that. If someone asks me out on a date, I know he is interested in me. Otherwise, I don't notice so I've never had that problem! Happy Friday! :)

I like to compliment and flirt with women (and girls, too) all the time, but I'm not "hitting on" anyone: I have a girlfriend and I want to keep her and only her.
So when I'm out shopping for groceries, for example, I will often compliment a female cashier with, "This is my lucky day," and if she asks why then I'll tell her, "I don't usually get the line for the best-looking cashier in the store." I'm not hitting on her; these young women are generally younger than my daughter. But I'll say that with older women, too, if it looks like they have taken some trouble to look nice, or even if they're only smiling and being friendly. A compliment has to be at least somewhat deserved or it's perceived as "just a line from a dirty old man."
On the other hand, if I'm complimenting a woman who seems to be a mother with kids, then the compliment that's best received is about the kids themselves. "Your kids are very well behaved!" or "Those are great outfits for the kids; nice style!" or something like that. I try to avoid being too personal with someone who is obviously (or apparently) in a relationship; that would make the woman uncomfortable, I think, and the point of a compliment is to make someone feel GOOD, not awkward, embarrassed or uncertain of your intention.
So even though I probably AM a dirty old man, I don't think most of the women I encounter think so. I get more honest smiles and "thank you" responses than blank, puzzled or dirty looks.
