Yes, have been planning for years. 15% of my paycheck is taken out for my retirement plan.

Since I work in the NHS, and will do for quite some time to come :) assuming it still exists, I will get my pension form them as well as the state pension and my private savings and investments.

The NHS pension is widely regarded as one of the best possible, in conjunction with that of the armed forces and other emergency services. How it works it this - you choose how much to put it but if you pay the full ratio, you pay it for 40 years as a small percentage of your earnings.

Then, whatever you earn in average over the last 3 years of work, you get half of that amount in your pension each year.

So, hypothetically, I work my way up to consultant level and earn, for the sake of easy numbers, £70,000pa, if I have paid the full 40 years of my pension, I get £35,000 each year as my NHS pension, in addition to the rest of my savings.

Not bad eh? See, all those long stressful hours do reap benefits in the end. Also, my Dad is a financial adviser, so hopefully he can help me out as well.
