I have more books by Norman Mailer than by any other author. I'd suggest:

An American Dream

The Naked and the Dead -- much more than just a war novel

"Superman Comes to the Supermarket," an article about the 1960 Democratic convention. It appears in The Presidential Papers. You've never read political reporting like this.
