Help answer this question below.
I have a 14 year old too and I would check her on it. I know that "it's the thing" right now but I don't want my kid thinking she's gotta blend in and swim up stream with the rest of em. I know she doesn't want to stand out but she's 14 not 24. She has the rest of her life to hear about hoes, pimps, drugs and other worthless topics.
When I was in high school, I listed to this kind of stuff. but I didn't LISTEN listen to it. It was more like background music when i did homework or was on the phone.
But, I also listened to other music. Is all her music like this? Or is it just this one song?
And if it is only this one song, is it worth a fight? Or should you just let her know you don't like this music, and would perfer not to hear it? So, you arn't telling her that she CAN'T listen to it, you just don't want to hear it blasting from her room?
Believe me, there are so many other songs out there that are WAY worse than this, and if this is the only thing you are worried about, I think you are very lucky!
Well if a song was explicit,I won't confront her I'd play stupid and cheerful and explain to her that you accidentlly heard the song and feel you should'nt be listening to it because of the content, then she's going to say,but all my friends like this song,I would tell her as you mother I don'nt approve of you listening to this song.
That would show you are looking out for her in her best interests without being harsh.:)
HOW CAN YOU PREVENT THEM WHEN ALL HER FRIENDS ARE LISTENING TO THE SAME SHIT!
Frankly the song isn't very good...but that's just my taste. But it's nothing to be worried about.
My favorite rapper is Eminem: I'm more "old school".
How many songs does she have on her MP3 player? How many plays does that song have? I know that when I go through my list of songs I have a million that I don't even like or listen to.. just like most people do, specially my 15 year old sister. I try to delete most of the songs from my computer that I don't like, but there's just too many to go through.
Should you be worried? Well, that depends on you and your daughter. Is she generally interested in that type of music? Is that something that you've let pass in your house before? What kind of morals do you try to instill in her. Do you trust her judgment? It just depends on those things. In one family that might be an acceptable song.. but in another it could be completely the opposite.
Do you know what kind of music your daughter is interested in? Why don't you talk to her about that and see what she has to say, then maybe bring up the song and ask her about it.. don't jump on her over it.
if she has any li'l wayne, i'd be worried about her taste
I would not let my kids listen to stuff like this.
Dunn worry bout it. Explicit lyrics don't really do much anyway... only 16 percent of kids really listen to lyrics.
