When did trucks change over to air brakes ?

    Whoa there, I think you're getting your trailer before your truck. The airbrake existed prior to 1872 when George Westinghouse patented his inproved version. The first real motor truck wasn't made untill 1896 by the German, Gottleib Daimler. But it was about 1918, when trucks became heavier, more powerful, and faster and so harder to stop, that nearly all of them had airbrakes. By 1925 most larger trucks had all wheel air brakes.
