Excellent point.
Assuming no absolute standard, could it not be argued that their is a social concious about decency... like common sense?

I can't argue with that, yhvhash. Most of us agree that murder is wrong, for instance.

I understand that some people are easily offended, and I know a few comedians have gone too far (in a lot of peoples opinions) with jokes. However, I believe that we should be able to laugh at ourselves. I can laugh along with everyone else when I am made fun of. The only thing that tells me decency should be used is when a comedian actually means his/her words and is not just trying to get a laugh but prove a point. How do you tell? I don't know. I would have to look into this more. I am interested to see other Abers responses. Very interesting question!

i don't disagree necessarily, but it's one thing to laugh at ourselves, and quite another to assume other people should have to. It's gray to me. +6

yes it's distasteful but censureship is scarier no? lol
Avatar yhvhash Oct, 23 2009 at 02:19 PM
I'm not for censureship either Rasher, but this is a point of decency, not freedom.

Thanks Milly! :)) +6

No just walk out or turn the TV off, Its for Adults and it is freedom of choose, you can complain if you want! but if not enough people do, then to me its a reflection of people not caring or its not bad enough!

I dont believe there is anything in the human experience that should be off limits to comedians, apart from making any form of discrimination a source of humour

I got the same message. It happens.
.
Anyway, why is race alone sacred amongst human experience?
Avatar Moley the contrary female dragon Oct, 23 2009 at 03:40 PM
not just race, any discrimination. Gender Sexual preference, Race Religion, it is not acceptable to me to make discrimination on any grounds funny. It is ok to make jokes but not to find the ACT of discrimination funny.
