Core vaccines are ones all dogs should have and include rabies, distemper and parvovirus. Most pet insurance plans give you the option of purchasing coverage for these.

Non-Core Vaccines

Non-core vaccines depend on your dog's level of personal risk, including lifestyle and geographical area. These include bordatella, coronavirus, Lyme disease and the giardia vaccine. Some insurance companies do not include these at all; others will include them for an extra monthly fee.

Read the fine print for each pet insurance plan to determine how much you will be reimbursed for vaccinations. Some plans allow a set amount annually for vaccination reimbursement. Other more comprehensive plans will cover the full cost of core vaccines along with some non-core vaccines.
