Cockapoo.com tells us that this breed hybrid is known for its excellent personality, possibly because of the gentleness of the cocker breed. These dogs are excellent with children and are included on a list of family-friendly dog breeds. Cockapoos are known to be very smart, according to the ACC, and also easily trained. Cockapoo.com suggests that this intelligence comes from the poodle in the cockapoo. Children should be able to train these dogs. The size of these dogs also makes them ideal for a family with children. They come in three sizes: toy, mini and standard, with the largest standing 15 inches at the shoulder and weighing around 20 lbs. Small but sturdy, they can withstand boisterous children without being intimidating to younger ones. Cockapoos are hypo-allergenic pets, according to Cockapoo.com, which is a great relief for children who wish for a pet but suffer from allergies. They also do not shed, which is a great relief for anyone who has to run the vacuum. Because the cockapoo is a breed hybrid--a mixture of cocker spaniel and poodle breeds--it is not currently recognized by the American Kennel Club.
