Certain dietary restrictions should be followed after gastric bypass surgery to ensure its success and reduce the risk of complications. You can then work your way back to a regular diet. Clear liquids are the only thing you should consume immediately after surgery. A clear liquid diet starts with water, then adds clear broth and sugar-free juice. The clear liquid diet can be followed by low-fat full liquids, such as diet instant breakfast drinks, for two weeks. Soft pureed foods can be introduced when the doctor thinks it's time. Many patients enjoy strained baby food. Around eight weeks after surgery, a diet consisting of the five food groups can be introduced. Meals should be small, with liquids in-between. Nuts, seeds, granola, dried fruits, breads, fibrous vegetables and tough meats should not be consumed after gastric surgery.Clear Liquids
