  • You don't have to go thru a lawyer, you CAN get 'free advice' from wading thru USCIS websites for info. I'm a British Male and now living in California, waiting on my Green Card, after marrying a CA woman. 1) It all takes TIME! 2) Keep all records of your relationship, for later proof. 3) YOU (US Citizen) must make a I-129 application for petition for your Alien fiancee, it can take 9 months. 4) Then, your fiancee must apply thru her US consulate for a K1 visa (can take 6 months to get!)which would allow her to travel to USA - TO GET MARRIED WITHIN 3 Months. 5) Marry quickly, then, apply for I-130, I-485 and I-765. She does NOT need to leave the country after her 3-month K1 visa expires, providing you make these applications in time. 6) After about 5 months she might get an Employment Authorisation (if needed) and after 6 months the first important Interview with USCIS as part of the process... That's where I am right now! 7) It can take up to 18 months to finally get the green card! This is brief and was just my situation, it may vary for you. It's a lot to get your head around but we did do it all ourselves without $$$$ lawyers help! Good luck!
