I'd prefer to pay higher taxes, if it would guarantee that the National Debt gets paid off, eventually.
I've never met a person who wants to pay higher taxes.
I'd like to stop paying high taxes to pay for the city of New York's problems. The state of New York is losing many people and businesses because of the high taxes.
Oh, please. Who is going to say they PREFER to pay higher taxes?
However, most people realize that their taxes are USED for things like schools, roads, fire departments, police, etc. and accept taxes as a necessary evil.
it depends on what i get in return. if i don't have to stumble over begging homeless people and i know they're being cared for in a shelter or psychiatric hospital or veteran's hospital, i say i'd pay a bit more for that. if more police reduce crime, i say i'd pay a bit more for that. if our military were to provide helmuts that protect our soldiers and design military vehicles to blow outward rather than upward IEDs thus saving the lives of many heroes, i'm willing to pay for it. if the money will go to bettering the schools and colleges for my kids, i'm for it. if the money will go to improving the quality of nursing home care for my mom, i'm for it. if the government designs a program to allow people like me dropped from health insurance to buy insurance without pre-existing conditions clauses, i'd say go for it. if the money is to go to increasing the salaries of radiologists from $430,000 a year to $600,000 a year, i say no. if it is to go to paying for billions in operating expenses and profits for companies run ashore by mis-management, then i say no. ...
I'd prefer much higher taxes. It may be somewhat naive of me to say, but I can't but assume that a good portion of that increased government revunue would go towards education and healthcare, making the world I live in and the people I come in contact with smarter and healthier.
