Help answer this question below.
That is certain medications, not all anti-depressants and that statistic is mostly for adolescents. So they should be closely monitored. Some of this effect is what the current state of a depressed person and what happens next. A depressed person usually has sunk deep into a certain way of living and withdrawn socially. Which makes matters even worse. Two things that depress people, external matters and/or internal processes in the brain. When a depressed teen or adult starts to come out of the disoriented life of depression, he looks around and his situation and says to himself "hey, I really do have things to be depressed about, look what I have done." The clincher is that with the extra energy that he didn't have when he was deeply depressed, can now turn on him. He now has the energy and motivation to actually carry out suicide plans. Longer answer than I intended
That's a little of it, but also, the risk of suicide goes up because the meds get rid of the fatigue of depression before the feeling, and in this gap, the person still has suicidal feelings, and now has the energy to act upon them.

You're reading What is the connection between "antidepressants" and the increase in "suicidal tendencies" in people taking them? Do these medicines aggravate the very thing they claim to treat? What is it about antidepressants that is causing this?
