  • Of course it depends on the species, but it is a well known occurance that goldfish will get very large depending on the space available to them, to the extent of several times larger than what is traditionally considered a normal sized goldfish.
  • As my fellow member said, it depends on the species. Some fish grow all their lives (as well as some reptiles, such as crocodilians) and, theoretically, have no upper limit on their size. Their growth is primarily governed by the amount of space (the size of the tank) and their nutrition. I have had the experience of having fresh-water angelfish remain size-stable until moved to a larger tank, where they would suddenly grow significantly.
  • my goldfish was a small size for several months, as soon as it was moved to a 2 1/2 gallon to a 5 gallon tank it grew 3 times its normal size within a month.
  • Depends on the fish, perfect water conditions, diet, and plenty of space will not make a cory cat get any bigger than 3", yet give the same conditions to a goldfish and that cute little 2" fishy you brought home will turn into a foot long monster. A good tip if you want to really get your fish bigger, brighter, and all around healthier in addition to getting a bigger tank is to feed a better diet. Plenty of fresh blanched greens for goldfish, and a mixture of live foods and high quality pellets fed in small amounts two to three times a day will bring out the maximum growth.
  • Yes if you put your fish in a bigger tank it should grow but if the tank has not been used a couuple times before your fish might die, so be carefull.
