Hard to answer without knowing what they did to deserve your hatred.
It's kind of weird, but nothing makes you appreciate your last ex like meeting someone new, trusting them, and having them betray you. Suddenly the previous someone looks a lot better in comparison. So the trick is to skip the "foreplay" in the middle and jump to that next enlightened state.
