  • Depends upon how long have I got with her / him. Good bye. You have been a great company. Any last orders? Food, Music, Video? Would you like me to auction your parking space for charity? Would you like me to avenge some bastard? What's your password on the bank account? Where the hell have you kept the...
  • Just talk about you memories together. At that point, it is sometimes to look back at the good times.
  • Why do people like you assume non religious people don't know how to live because we don't live like you? Get out of your box and realize that everyone doesn't live the 'christian way'. You already guessed (you used common sense, congratulations) what an atheist would say to a dying loved one. I want to see what else you can come up with, you can do it, blow the dust off of your brain and try again.
  • Anything other than those three words cannot be said with complete honesty. So I refrain.
  • What else needs to be said? Oh you mean promise them eternal paradise.. nah.
  • Anything relevant except opening a fairy story at a random page and assuming a patronising ye naive position.
  • "Sign this to help others" Scribble...scribble "Hey this is a new will!!" "Mrrumphh!!!" Mrrumphh!!!" Mrrumphh!!!" Beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep "Code Blue!! Code Blue!!"
  • It's been real and are you going to eat those fries?
  • Not much - perhaps clear up some issues that may have been sitting around and not dealt with. Just spend time. Let them know they will be missed. etc. If I say anything like "see you later" or "see you on the other side" they'll know I'm lying - but sometimes the lies are comforting.
  • If I'd known you were going to die first I would have bought that life insurance.
  • None of "we atheist" will answer the question because it all depends on who the dying person is and what our relationship is with them and what the circumstances are. JiG, maybe you have some canned God quotes for such occasions, but "we atheist" have to take the time and effort and thought to decide what is right for each situation, instead of mindlessly following an ancient script like you do.
  • Apart from i love you? Well there's always 'don't worry you'll be at peace soon' and 'don't worry death is nothing to be afraid of'. I find no comfort at all in what the church teachs about sin and punishment because contrary to what the church has threatened i don't believe there are any burning fires of hell because there is no such thing and was a scare tactic by the church. Personally i find that concept about endless torment without a body such a human torture concept as laughable and such an obvious throwback from the times of medevil manipulation and cruelity. Its a threat slotted into all the words of love and forgiveness used to silence those that would question religion.
  • Didn't I just answer this one? Let me repeat it: I comfort all people with love, caring, kindness. I try to alleviate their pain and fears. What I don't do is lie to them. I wouldn't say that they are going to take a trip with the glitter fairies and ride unicorns for all eternity. I don't feel a need to make up fictional stories to offer false comfort. I'd certainly try to have a professional counselor involved, if at all possible. You may also want to consider that the idea that they will always exist...never ceasing...isn't always comforting. I don't find that idea comforting, and didn't even as a child. I found descriptions of Heaven just as disturbing as descriptions of Hell. Really, honestly, if the only reason you are motivated to tell a story of a deity in the clouds and a happy afterlife is to comfort the dying...what does that say about you? What does that say about the truth value of what you've said?
  • I think I have a nice for all atheist-bashers here (gand and jezus, are you all 3 paying attention'): We shall die and therefore we are lucky. Most people never get a chance to die. Simply because they never recieve the chance to live.. The amount of people that could have been born instead of me is enormous. More than there are drops of water in the ocean. Among those unborn souls are greater poets than Keats, greater scientist than Newton.. We know that because the diversity of our DNA is much bigger than we have people on this planet. And even though these odds, it are you and me that had the chanche to enjoy this life.
  • There is always hope...even if in the future... (Acts 24:15) And I have hope toward God, which hope these men also look forward to, that there is going to be a resurrection of both the righteous and the unrighteous. (Zephaniah 2:3) Seek Jehovah, all you meek ones of the earth, Who observe his righteous decrees. Seek righteousness, seek meekness. Probably you will be concealed on the day of Jehovah
  • An atheist would probably say the same things most religious people would say. What would you say, "Be sure to say hi to Jesus for me and ask him to make my football team win this weekend?"
  • Thank you for being in my life and the love snd support you gave me. I will miss you greatly but will always be greatful i had you near me.
