An attempted suicide is a cry for help. It is a response to acute emotional and mental pain, an attempt to relieve that pain through self-annihilation. It is neither bravery nor is it cowardice, but a response to psychological torment or sometimes physical torment as well. It is the tragic consequence of the failure of others to respond to the desperate cues of the suicidal person. This is not to say we should go through our lives with the guilt of not stopping them, but we do tend to bear the pain and anguish that at least matches the suicide's, because they somehow managed to slip through our grasp. This is a hard thing for the survivors to live with, and can lead to the suicide of the loved ones of the victim.

People who attempt suicide are in despair and desperate to end their suffering and pain, either physical or psychological. Desperation and despair are hellish places to be, and answering if these people are brave or weak is impossible until you've walked a mile in their shoes.

that really depends. there are people who actually have/had horrible lives that they felt were worth ending but nowadays we have all these emos who for the most part, are weak.
