  • Somebody decides that your question has been placed in the "wrong" category, then uses the "FLAG" option to call that to the attention of an AB toady, who may or may not agree with that, then moves your question to another category, where it will remain until you protest it and explain to AB why it was previously in the "correct" category. Those who bring wrong category notifications to the attention of the AB honchos, are called "FLAGGOTS." It's happened to me, also, and sometimes, my Q actually ended up in a BETTER category, so I was grateful for "the change." +5
  • Many users moderate to supplement their points, and to help not only AB, by doing so, but those who flag "Wrong Category" put them into better places, usually that will get it more responses, and where more people interested in the given subject will find it. And, of course, there are spam and nonsense questions and answers, as well as duplicate questions.
  • Putting Questions in the Correct category helps the Questioner get more points and makes it much easier for people that are looking for answers on a particular subject able to find things easier. Life and Society covers most things that happen everyday it does not really give the question a Category unless you choose a Sub Category within that . People may be happy to call those that flag wrong category questions names but in the long run they are helping you earn more points. Most of my early questions have been put into New categories because all the present Categories did not exist when I asked the questions. I am grateful for the extra points those people have helped me gain.
  • 1) Look at the "Most Moderation Points" leaderboards. Like for all leaderboards, there are two versions of this, the "last week" version: http://www.answerbag.com/stats?board=6 The "all time" version: http://www.answerbag.com/stats?board=6&period=alltime The users that you can find at the top of those leaderboards are doing a lot of flagging on Answerbag to keep the site in best form. Among other flagging, they do the "Wrong category" flagging, where they suggest a new category for a question, which they consider to be better. However, this only works as a proposal. The Staff moderators and the Community Leaders (CL) are taking the final decision. 2) "When is a question considered to be in the wrong category? Questions can be posted in one and only one category, and with close to 5,000 question categories, it's not always easy to choose the right category the first time! Generally, wrong category flags will be approved if they propose moving a question from a general to a more specific category, and to one that better suits the topic of the question. Questions which are being moved to less specific categories, less appropriate categories, or to categories which are considered to be a lateral move where there is no significant improvement will not be approved."
