this is also the best way to explode the engine. supercharges DO put undo stress on the engine and WILL wear it out faster. If you have no clue where to start I would find a tuner shop in your area and ask them. If you have no idea what you're doing, DO NOT do it yourself, unless you want your cylinder heads to be a new hood ornament. If you're Paul the know it all, why are you asking this???

A supercharger is NOT good for your engine! Take your car to a pro speed shop and let experts do it right.

BMW's usually respond better to turbocharging. there are a few kits out there for the I-6 but any of them will add stress to the engine, and most manufacturers usually recommend only installing them on a fresh engine that has been modified to accept the new found power...you need major fuel system upgrades to keep up with it as well as strong internals, better intake and exhaust flow....the list goes on and on

Your car is rather old for such increased power. It may require freshening to handle the extra power produced. Fortunately there seems to be some companies still providing kits. This link provides a good comparison about charging methods and performance levels http://www.pelicanparts.com/bmw/techarticles/101-Projects-22-Supercharger/101-Projects-22-Supercharger.htm Here are some links http://downingatlanta.com/downingatlanta/da_superchargers_info_new.htm or http://www.koperformance.com/BMW/turbo_superchargers/index.htm This guy says there are not kits available so he built his own. http://home.mchsi.com/~jroal/cars/bmw.htm
