Should there be a National no spending money day (to curb the habit)?

    Well, here's the thing with that (buy nothing day, gas outs, whatever): You are still using stuff that you paid money for. the "gas out" idea is easiest to illustrate it with: if the gas-out is monday, you'll just buy gas on sunday. the gas company got your money either way. If you wanted to not give the gas company your money, you could bike to work, and save the half-gallon or whatever.

    If you have a no spending day, okay, I'm not going grocery shopping or big screen TV-buying on tuesday, I'll just go on Wednesday. They still get my money.

    An effective no-spending day would be doing stuff that saves future money: planting a garden, teaching yourself to repair clothing, cooking meals to freeze so when you're tired and don't want to cook you can heat&eat instead of ordering takeout.
