Well, funny you should ask about the dog and vacuums... Our dog ATTACKS the vacuum when its on, biting the heck out of it hehe. Baths he doesnt mind. So Im going to say the vacuum.
P.s. He attacks aerosol cans you spray as well...
I don't have a dog, but Spooney the Cat abhors both. Just pull the vacuum out and she is GONE. And giving her a bath is VERY risky business. We leave her to keep her fur clean in her own way. :)

My mom + aerosol can = Burnt nosehairs...
my mom loves to spray the smelly stuff all over the house, but when she does, she uses the whole can.... its hard to breathe, let alone smell for a day or so
