there's a web page full of song meanings and lyrics at www.songfacts.com it's an excellent sight where i found this posted...
"Tommy James constructed this slice of psychedelia from his favorite color and his favorite flower. (thanks, Brad Wind - Miami, FL)"
Well, it is my favorite songs of all time and I am 28. What I have learned is this..a song has many different meanings to many different people. It definitely is about the love of something and wanting to get that feeling over and over again. Whether it be Sex, Drugs, Rock and Roll....its just about the pure point of pleasure...crimson is a feminine and beautiful word, and a gorgeous color....clover..well to some it means luck :)
All I can say is KEEP LISTENING and LOVING the song as much as I do!
Lyrics for: Crimson And Clover
Now I don't hardly know her
But I think I could love her
Crimson and clover
Ah, well if she come walkin' over
Now I been waitin' to show her
Crimson and clover, over and over
Yeah, my mind's such a sweet thing
I wanna do everything
What a beautiful feeling
Crimson and clover, over and over
[Repeat to fade:]
Crimson and clover, over and over
I always thought it was about sex. Crimson=menstural blood, Clover=penis.
And the phrase "over and over" seems pretty sexual to me. XD
I don't know, but I do know where you cand find out - check out this site, it's really informative: http://www.songfacts.com/
Here my interpretation: It is about a guy smoking weed and having sex with a girl he met.
Crimson and Clover = marijuana (clover colored with red hairs)
"What a beautiful feeling
Crimson and clover, over and over" = smoking more weed and having more sex.
I know it is not the REAL meaning, but I still think it's the best one.
I thought it was between vaginal and anal sex.
Well your all right to an extent because this song is about sex and drug, smoking hash whilst imagining taking a young girls virginity.
I'm not sure. I can tell you that Crimson Clover adds alot of nitrogen to the soil so it's a great thing to plant in your garden and it's also a pretty terrific cover plant to keep weeds away.
It CANNOT be about Cherie Currie, you wankers, because Jett didn't write the song, unless of course you also believe she wrote it when she was ten so that Tommy James could release it in 1968. Morons. Don't perpetuate idiotic myths; it just makes more stupid people.
The song is about Cherie Currie.
Cherie = Cherry, Cherry = CRIMSON, Currie = Spice, Spice = CLOVER
I agree with the sex comment...It is about love and a "good feeling"..however i also believe it can have a second meaning dealing with drugs...It s a "psychedelic" song..Plus when I think of my mind's such a sweet thing
I wanna do everything, What a beautiful feeling: i think of drugs taking over the mind, what a sweet feeling!! I don't know, just an idea...DEFINITELY agree with what has already been said first though :)
Hi you all.
I am Tony, Hispanic, from Panama. That song was very popular in my home country, but no one could ever tell me what they mean by crimson and clover.
Bottom line, is that short words and the melody it self it's so sensual.
I Wish to really understand it.
Over and Over..
crimson=green
clover=red
red and green are the colours of cherries (red cherry + green stem)
"crimson and clover" is about cherie currie(i.e: the singer from joan jett's previous band, with whom she had a very close relationship. She was symbolized by a cherry, and had one tattooed on the right hand side of her chest).
