What do you think of a provincial government shutting down a jail dairy farm because the "operating costs are too high"?

    A jail has a budget just like all departments in a government. Usually a jail is a county entity. Counties are often under financial pressure due to falling property taxes.
    A dairy farm sounds like wholesome work to keep the inmates busy, that we can all agree on. Dairy farming was in my family 60 years ago but my grandparents had to give it up. It was a lot of work for what little money was involved.
    If applied to a jail, again the balance of cost to benefit, as well as the costs of supervising prisoners and the limitations of jail land and lack of scale economy, could be sufficient to force shutdown.
    Just as people in the real world must deal with job loss in tight times, so must inmates deal with loss of preferred work assignments.
