How do you tell the difference between a grandfather and a grandmother clock? this is a serious question.

grand father clocks are the larger grand mother is only about 5 ft tall

I don't actually know for certain, so someone else will hopefully be able to give you a better answer but I alwaqys thought that a Grandfather clock was much bigger and free-standing, whereas a Grandmother clock was smaller and could fit on a mantlepiece or table or similar.

Both are tall, standing clocks, 6-7ft. Typically the grandmother clock's face is round, and the wooden surround of the face is also circular in shape. The grandfather clock can have a rectangular face but the wooden surround of the face is bigger than the G/M and always rectangular.
