• sorry, lol...I've always thought of British as meaning England, and UK as meaning the group...but now that I think about it, British makes sense as meaning Great Britain and thus the group...blimey!...I meant to say "throw me some English ones!" oh, and I love how favour looks so royal (or something)...it's so plain-looking as favor, the way we spell it here, lol...

• yep, I have to agree - the dropped 'u' in your words does make it look bare. And the other words like travelled/traveled, centre/center, orientated/oriented (oops, that's gonna make sparks fly!) - but do you see what I mean? they just look fuller somehow, more developed - haha. Daft I know. :)

• do you say orientated there? I've also heard it here; I'm used to saying oriented...what you say makes some sense...if you think about it, the USA only goes back 232 years to the Declaration of Independence, so we are less developed than you all!

• We do, but there was something the other day about how it should be spelt/said - one guy was quite adamant that there was no such word as 'orientated'! But there is, it's in the OED, and it really doesn't matter which you use - although you use the other more, and it's more confined as a technical term here. To me, it just doesn't look or sound right so...
  But remember that you were descendants (largely) from this country, and your way of say 'gotten', for example, where we never use that now, is actually the old English way! We just dropped the end part, where you kept it. And English is a bastard language in itself anyway (and a bastard to learn and teach, let me tell you!), as there's all the influences from Vikings, Angles, Saxons, French, Romans, (countrymen!), and god kows what else crept over our shores!! :)

• don't know if you know this story...you've likely never seen the Declaration, which was signed by all members of our Congress at the urging of Ben Franklin, who said, "we must all hang together, or we'll most assuredly hang separately!"
  anyway, John Hancock signed in a very large script, "so fat George can read it without his spectacles!"
