I think there is some debate, but the term was apparently used 1st by a Cleveland DJ named Alan Freed who took it from an old blues song called My Baby Rocks Me With a Steady Roll.
Rock and roll is a euphemism for sex, going back decades in the music world. There are many variations and alternatives, such as, "Rock me, baby, all night long."
"The word jazz was originally a verb--slang for having intercourse. Rock has related etymology. In the twenties, rock and roll also referred to the sex act, as in Trixie Smith's 1922 blues recording whcrc she sings "my man rocks me with a steady roll.''
