Because it's not legal in most states...if it were due to social stigma, there wouldn't be so many sluts...IMO.
America is the land of opportunity, so most women have better choices available and do not need to resort to the oldest profession.
while the money is good, I assume the health risks are seen as too high for most women. They would rather have a job which pays less, to avoid the negative consequences of selling their bodies.
1. Most American women have a source of income that doesn't make them feel the need to be prostitutes.
2. The stigma definitely plays a role. Women are typically more self-concious than men and having such a negative stigma attached is a no-no.
3. The fact that it's illegal probably also plays a big role also, seeing as most people want to avoid jail or any criminal affliction.
I just don't like dealing with the public.
In Japan and South Korea 15% of women have worked as prostitutes, yet here in America under 5% choose this profession.
I suppose it because most Americans are raised as Christians, which influences our society and puts a heavy stigma on prostitution and other sex work.
