depends on what you want to fight about.
Some lawyers will take a case on a contingency basis - so, they get a big piece of the amount you win. However, they usually won't take a case they don't think they can get enough money to make it worth their time.
Some state agencies have an ombudsman who can help you fight.
some legal services groups have lawyers who will help for free (not very comon, but they exist)
sometimes the best way to fight is in the press - if you have a really compelling case, a reporter might be interested.
In Ca Court, can a related party file a motion with the court to request copies of discovery if they are not a plaintiff or defendant?
