That particular bit of speculation, from my knowledge, seems unlikely these days, since the expansion of space is accelerating, so there's no "big crunch" in sight. However, the island Universes that will eventually arise, will collapse into black holes, and then in a very very VERY long time, these island black holes will evaporate and leave nothing but an empty space full of radiation.

I think about it and I consider the possibilities but then I remeber I'll be dead before all this happens and I forget to care. . . . Is this the problem?

Proven? How? There would be no physical proof remaining after each cycle. But it seems like a good theory to me.

The 'cyclic big bang' hypothesis you are building your question around is not considered viable at this time. It has a very severe problem in that the expansion of the universe is happening at a speed greater than 'escape velocity', and so gravity would be an inadequate reason for the expansion to reverse and start falling back. regards JakobA
