Well, I think it's less likely here than at Y!A, where exactly what you described happened. That's because AB has actual human monitors that provide customer service, and not bots who do nothing but let the trolls run wild.

Trolls are good and bad. They are a definitive part of this site. Like it or lump it.

When you or someone you know has been hit by trolls, you can come to around half the people on this site, and they will return your points, assuming that your Q or A was not spamming, insulting, or nonsense. Most people, including me, are all too happy to return points to you :) When you see a person's profile, and they have a shockingly LOW percentage on ratings given, you have the option of making a note of it, and not pointing them from that time forward. Pointing them encourages them to remain on AB. So does fighting with them (not that YOU fight with them, but some people do). +5

Fact from fiction, truth from diction. If AB decends to the land of trolls is up to AB. There will always be somebody who would rather try to flag your question or answer because they lack intellegence to debunk it. What better way to get people who can't ask an intellegent question or make an intellegent answer feel silly enough to leave if to expose them for who they are? If they hide and never show their face they maybe harder to catch but for the most part I believe so long as AB don't run crying foul every time a troll rears their head lik YA, AB will always be a better place.

1) We don't see the flags, we just see the rejections; also we don't see the reports, we just see the penalties. So what we see is not just the result of some users flagging and reporting around, but it is already the decision of the Staff moderators or CLs about it. Of course, it could sometimes happen that they accept a flagging or reporting too easily. You can then use a feedback to try to contest the decision. Happily, I have not been so much the victim of this. 2) "Generally, anything that couldn't be shown on US broadcast television. This includes anything you post on the site: questions, answers, comments, user profile information, links, avatars and usernames. While we encourage our users to express themselves freely, questions on the regular Answerbag site must be appropriate for users age 14 and above. Questions and answers that are sexually explicit or graphic belong in the AB4Adults section of Answerbag. Question context and category is a factor as well: some questions that might be offensive in one category might be appropriate in another. When content is flagged as offensive, the flag will be approved if the content doesn't meet the broadcast TV rule-of-thumb, if an individual user is being attacked, or when in the opinion of site moderators the question is intended to be malicious or hurtful. Sometimes opinions may seem offensive, and some questions are intended to challenge the way other people think. We tend to be careful about censoring these types of questions, and err on the side of preserving content. Within the larger goal of preserving a useful and harmonious community, we believe in people's right to speak their mind, and we have found that allowing questions which may seem offensive can lead to very informative discussions about why the question is or is not offensive. We recognize that this is a fine line and can involve some very tough judgment calls. If you feel that a flag was accepted or rejected erroneously, let us know by clicking the Feedback link at the bottom of every page." This site is actually pretty low on trolls, even if you count people who have downrated more than twice and aren't good at flagging, as many people will do. In fact, it can get boring here, since there's almost never anything interesting going on. You can thank Yahoo!Answers for that. Most people just go there if they need a Q&A site, and usually if someone ends up here, it's because they didn't know about Y!A and found this site by accident. So, not only is this site small and out of the way compared to Y!A, it's also not a place that trolls would bother with. So, in conclusion, no, I don't think Answerbag will ever just be trolls. I think Answerbag will die like it is now: boring.
