I honestly think it would not be a wise thing to do because their is important nutrients in the first beginnings of milk that your baby really should get if your are intending to breastfeed your child.
Wait till you give birth you can start pumping if you wish after you leave the hospital that way baby gets all the good stuff.
Your wife's ob/gyn probably already answered this, but if she's near the end of her pregnancy, nipple stimulation like pumping can possibly bring on contractions, which may or may not be good for mother/baby. And also if she did pump before birth I would think baby won't get the first milk (colostrum) designed for newborns to drink the first few days till the regular milk comes in. I'm betting the doctor advised her to wait till baby was born. And congratulations with your baby!
