    Jillifish

Middle English allegorie, from Latin all?goria, from Greek, from all?gorein, to interpret allegorically : allos, other + agoreuein, to speak publicly (from agora, marketplace).
(source The American HeritageŽ Dictionary of the English Language, Fourth Edition)

"Allegory" ultimately comes from the Greek words for "other speaking" (ie, figurative language); "parable", from the Greek "placing side by side" (ie, comparison).
