Kids can (and do!) get into anything and everything, if they are curious enough, and depending on how well-tethered it was, a child might have been able to untie the ropes accidentally, causing him to lift off.
I'm optimistic that he'll be totally safe and land safely, then he'll have one Helluva story to tell his grandkids, one day.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

Horrifying. The latest news release says the balloon landed without the box attached. They fear the box separated and he fell to the ground. They are searching 2 counties, over a 50 mile range. I hope he is found alive, safe and sound!

Why are more modern aircraft including Boeing 747 jumbo aircraft having more controls managed by computer or fly-by-wire? Is it safe?
