I suppose it's legal but I don't understand why anyone with a daughter like that would want to.
-
Yes, it's legal. The parent is no longer legally responsible for providing her support, and can give her 30 days notice to leave. That she is paying rent isn't relevant -- even if she's not paying rent she still is entitled to a month to find other lodging. Childhood ends, sadly. We have to draw the line somewhere.
-
I suppose it's *legal* since the daughter in question is 18 and legally an adult. Her parent(s) or guardian(s) have no legal obligation to necessarily do anything at all to guarantee her well-being after she is an adult. It's highly unkind, but legal.

why in the heck would anybody do such a selfish thing? frankly, to me, the legal possibilities pale in comparison to the moral imperative to provide support. honestly, i don't live in pennsylvania, so, i'm not certain, i think that many states require parents to provide support through the academic year in which the child turned 18, and penna might be one of those.

What is your beef with her?
-
It's most likely legal, but I went through that with my 18 year old daughter, and I must tell you that it is definately the wrong thing to do. They can be horrible at that age, and very mean and disrespectful, but what happens now will leave serious emotional scars for the rest of her life. The best thing to do is to force as much kindness and understanding as you can and try to compromise with her and work through this. Not only will the emotional scars be on your daughter, but you will carry a lifelong guilt as well and it can become heavy later on. My daughter is 24 now, and we are friends again, so don't let anything you do now ruin that chance of reconciliation for you and your daughter after she "grows up!"

no where to go? I am sure there is a nice gentleman out there who will take pity on her :-)
-
I'm not sure, but I think the "kicking" part might be illegal, at least in Philadelphia (those liberals!); in the rest of the state it's probably okay. But perhaps if you just swat her with a small stick until she gets the idea, or just bully or taunt her, then it's okay anywhere in the state. I believe that simply piling coal or gob in front of her door (if she's out of the room) so that it can't be opened, is also acceptable.

I am scratching my head and asking myself, why? She sounds like a perfect daughter. Is it her age you are concerned about? Please give us more information.
-
Yes, it is.
-
my guess is that ur the person getting kicked out. sorry sweetie, but its completely legal. However, if i was you, i would be relieved in some ways considering youve had to pay rent since youve been 16. ur parents sound like real ass-heads. Ask a friend if you can stay with them for a few weeks and pay rent there, until you can get on your feet. sorry about your jerky parents, girl. :)

I am kicking my daughter out. This is happening to my daughters friend and she is staying with us right now. Her parents kicked her out on her 18th birthday with no where to go. They told her twenty minutes before she turned 18. Thank you all for your help.

It certainly is ... as long as you follow the LEGAL "Eviction Proceedures" as required under Pa law ... Your local landlord-tenant / Municipal court clerk can saaist with exact details ... +5

I don't know. If I was 18, an honor roll student and never in trouble I would be smart enough to get my ass as far away from these people as possible and never look back again. What kind of monsters would consdier this?
-
Yes it is legal, she is an adult.
-
It's legal, but I wouldn't do it.Unless they were doing drugs and just refusing to follow me and my husbands rules.
-
legal, yes ethical, no if you did pay rent, and had some kind of agreement, it could be interperated as a tenent/landlord relationship, and you could have been wrongfuly evicted
