You're reading What's the real reason Catholic priests aren't allowed to get married?

That's interesting, and news to me.
Can you give a good web reference?

Not really. But I when I read it (along with a whole history of the Catholic church) , it struck a chord with me so I remembered it. Sorry I can't be specific.

Palmagma-It is a fact that priests could marry but most chose not to attempting to live the celibate life Paul speaks of 1 Cor. The church then made a decision that priests would best serve the family of God as celibate men without divided loyalty to personal families and their parishes. Men who wanted to live celibate stayed others did not. It is however a custom of the church and could be changed back if enough priests wanted to change it back--so far they have not.
I might also note that their are married priests with families in the Catholic faith. In our Eastern rites, priest can and do marry. Also, we have a number of former Anglican and Lutheran priests who converted to Catholicism who were married with children. They were allowed to become Catholic priests and the church supports and provides for their entire family too. In fact I went to a parish where the priest was married with five children. We all gave extra because we knew were supporting the entire family not just one man. NO problem.

@A.C. Vila- Leaders in the Church of God are supposed to be the husband of one wife and have children. Since these things are not required for Catholic priests, they are not following scriptures the way that they are supposed to. This is one of the biggest reasons I will never, ever consider myself Catholic. If you wanted to know what inspired my question, that is what did.
