Bill Gates and inactive co-founder Paul Allen still retain 'controlling interest' in the company. Bill Gates is the president and CEO of Microsoft.
How long this will remain so depends on him. I would suspect that he will, for the rest of his life, maintain controlling interest yet will step aside to allow some other person to run the company. Most likely the Gates Family will retain controlling interest for generations, there is the potential that his child(ren) will one day run the company.
