They've unfortunately chosen the airport closest to me as one of the "test sites." I went through one once, and plan in the future to exercise my right to an alternate screening method. I hated the machine -- it made me feel violated. My mother went through it, too, and feels the same way.

It's useless high tech garbage and it's not going to stop anyone.

Just another intrusion of privacy in the name of an abstract threat that is not quantifiable - very similar to the "war" on drugs.

Whatever the case, I would never submit to it.

it depends.... your religion, and how you feel about it... like me i would consider it to be an invasion of my privacy... like a full cavity search.

I think airport security has gotten out of hand a long time ago. The security violations we have seen in the past have been due to negligence, not lack of technology.

It's invasion of privacy because the terrorists will find a way around it.

There is a just reason for this new type of scanner.

Its not to see naked human torsos, its to discover plastic guns on humans.

Never heard of a plastic gun? it fits into the small of the lower back.

Its deadly and it currently passes through the existing scanners, without sounding an alarm.

    Now you know.

In Europe (EU) they were deemed to be invasive of privacy and consequently (and very quickly) banned.

I think it is important to see what is hidden under the clothes. I feel that the terrorists will be less likely to try something at the airport with them in place. Besides, if they want to look at my naked body, more power to them. It isnt that great to look at these days...LOL

Yeah it's invasion of privacy. I was patted down once, and it was uncomfortable. lol, I forgot to take out the barrette in my hair which had metal in it.

To anyone that may know, does the Amsterdam airport do this?

I think this is not a violation of privacy because they are trying to stop the terrorist attacks which kills millions peoples every years. and most of them are children. if we think about our save life then we never think that this is a violation.

Who knows, you may be scanned "naked" whey you walk into your bank. Really though, what are you showing? I picture it the same as an x-ray in that your bones are showing and any hidden items, including in body cavities, will be shown. Violation of privacy? At what price is safety purchased???

Meh, whatever. If they want to see my naked, I don't care. I'm not sure it's necessary though.

My opinion is I could not care less - snap away. The courts like to debate the privacy issue. As to necessary, I have doubts but can't prove either way. +5

I would rather have the option to go through a security line naked - If I am giving someone a show, I might as well make it a good one

I originally made a comment, concerning this question on someone else's answer, but i think its important to make my comment as a 2nd Answer.

I was a U.S. Marshal for five years. we first heard about plastic guns and decided to see if the scanners in operation, at that time, would detect plastic guns.

One deputy placed a plastic gun in the small of his back and walked through the current scanners used across the country. the alarm did not go off. it did not go off after four more attempts. this really concerned us.

Yes. we need updated scanners that will detect plastic guns.

Its for our safety and not just a mobile peep show as some people have stated.

Real terror is 35,000 feet above the earth with an idiot with a plastic gun and you are sitting in seat number c41.

No, its not a violation of privacy.

You have the option - get scanned and travel, or don't travel. Currently many people are given the option of allow a naked search, or don't travel. So theres not really any difference. You have the right to decline, therefore there is no violation of rights to privacy.

In addition to my privacy objections, I should also note that I'm not thrilled about the radiation exposure. What are the long term effects of being x-rayed every time you fly?

No, thanks. I'll choose the pat-down.
