My friend who suffers from panic attacks would usually take out his handy book of jokes he accumulated over the years. He said laughing naturally helps.

One of the most helpful things my psychologist got me to do was time the attacks, (the worst of it usually lasted around 5 mins) then think to myself that the worst would be over in that time. After 10+ years, I don't think there's any sure-fire cure - it's all hard work but I'm much improved. Whenever it gets MUCH better then it always returns - I guess because I haven't needed to "practice" the management techniques for a while. When really bad, I count as I breathe, or do crosswords to constantly distract my brain (eg. when taking off in a plane - I carry a crossword magazine with me whenever I'm likely to be affected) - never thinking too hard about any solution, just going straight to the next one. If I'm stuck in a social situation, I'm normally shy but I just start talking about anything & that definitely helps. (The desperation to reduce the panic symptoms helps me to overcome the regular shyness.) Hope this helps you a little, at least.

Id' recommend looking into EFT. It's a technique of tapping on the body and repeating statements while you do it that is a great help for anxiety, phobias, pain, losing weight, all sorts of things. It's great for getting rid of headaches, too. You can learn about it here: http://www.emofree.com/ On the website you can download a manual about the technique for free. http://www.emofree.com/downloadeftmanual.asp At Emofree and at Youtube (type in EFT) are some videos that show it being done to give you an idea of what it's like, like this one for headaches:
