Why isn't the southern part of Egypt called the lower region and the nothern part of Egypt called the upper region?

    I think it's because of the direction that the Nile River flows. It flows from South to North.

    "Lower Egypt" is at a lower altitude, since that's where the Nile empties into the Med. "Upper Egypt" is higher than sea level.
