  • You get a blood type test. Human blood is classified, or typed, according to the presence or absence of certain markers (called antigens) on the surface of red blood cells. Blood type may also be done to see if two people are likely to be blood relatives (for instance, to help establish paternity when it is in question). The most important antigens are blood group antigens (ABO) and the Rh antigen. Therefore, the two most common blood type tests are the ABO and Rh tests. Although there are other ways to type blood, these two tests are the most common.
  • Donate blood. It's a good idea and you can ask them what type you have.
  • You can go to the doctor and they can find out your blood type.
  • You go take a blood test when completing your rountine annual checkup. Blood is classified as: There are four types of blood in the ABO system: A, B, AB, and O. Your blood type is established before you are born, by specific genes inherited from your parents. You receive one gene from your mother and one from your father; these two combine to establish your blood type. These two genes determine your blood type by causing proteins called agglutinogens (a-GLOO-tin-a-gins) to exist on the surface of all of your red blood cells. • G'day Funsince1982, Thank you for your question. It is generally determined by blood test. If necessary, they conduct a cross-matching test to judge compatability for transfusions. In many areas, you can do a free blood test to determine your blood type. I have attached sources for your reference.
