    The neurons whose cell bodies are in the lower spinal cord (partway up the back, in the lower thoracic spine), which send axons that reach the toes. They can be over a meter long.

    These neurons, in turn, connect to ones that start in the brain and reach the same part of the spinal cord.

    The spinal cord acts as a signal processing center for both sensory and motor neurons. No axons go directly between brain & toes.

    The primary neuron going from the toe to the medulla is most likely the longest. In a tall individual, it could be 6 feet long. The neuron is part of the dorsal column system, which carries messages regarding proprioception, vibration, and two-point discrimination.
