It's a tossup among the Lee Enfield SMLE No.1 MK III, The Mauser C96 "Broomhandle," or the AR-15.
I own an AR-15 and an SMLE, but I plan on buying a C96 soon.

Lee Enfield No. 1 MK III* mine was made in Australia in 1916. It is well made, sturdy and capable of rather good accuracy. I bought one cheap so I could shoot for a CMP M-1 Garand with a center fire rifle. I liked it so much I decided to stick with it. I was hooked. I bought Ian Skenerton's book. It was nice. Fed Ord in El Monte bought an entire wherehouse of them so I took the day off work and drove 50 miles with the issue sling in my car to pick out THE ONE. It was like going to the poud twith a leash to adopt a dog. Went throught the entire wherehouse. Checked all the markings with the book. Punched alot of bores packed with cosmaline (I love that smell). I Got the one I wanted, put the sling on, paid the man and walked out with a smile on my face.
